Switzerland Wins the Jaguar Innovation Medal at London Design Biennale 2016
Under the leitmotif “In-between: The Utopia of the Neutral” seven Swiss design studios have partnered with seven specialist industrial manufacturers, each with niche knowledge of a particular field, for the group installation of the Swiss Pavilion at the London Design Biennale.
The jörg boner design studio collaborated with Bcomp for their contribution to the exhibition. Combining ampliTex™ flax fabrics and natural resins with LED technology resulted in the creation of a unique lamp design.
‘It’s time to leave the capsule, if you dare’ focuses on the omnipresent issue of waste and objects leaving behind superfluous material after they have been used. “Waste is an outdated principle, and it would be great if we could transcend it some day,” says Joerg Boner.
About the lamp that uses sustainable flax fibres and natural resins, Boner adds: “In this project flax forms the reflector, providing a light diffuser to soften the glare from the small light source, providing comfort and ease for the eyes. Using a minimum of materials, flax becomes the carrier of the electronics. And light takes on form.”
Out of 37 countries and territories that were represented at the London Design Biennale 2016, Switzerland with its Swiss Pavilion was awarded the Jaguar Innovation Medal, reflecting innovation’s vital importance in design.
