Every year, some 50 new cleantech start-ups are founded in Switzerland, an average of nearly one a week contributing to economic growth and environmental innovation. The 2nd edition of the Overview of Cleantech Start-ups published by CleantechAlps profiles the current state of play in Switzerland’s cleantech ecosystem, highlighting the central role played by start-ups in the transformation into a more sustainable economy.
Although the title of this report is about start-ups, the diversity of the ecosystem is also presented through company profiles, which includes emerging start-ups, fast-growing scale-ups and innovation-pioneering SMEs, illustrating the dynamism and vitality of the cleantech community. With Bcomp, we’re honoured to be featured in this latest edition as a leading force in sustainable innovation.
By harnessing high-performance flax-based materials, weight reductions of up to 50% can be achieved, alongside a 70% reduction in plastic use in automotive interiors. From our origins in sports and leisure applications, Bcomp has advanced to transforming mobility solutions with major carmakers—highlighting the impact Swiss scale-ups in enabling a decarbonised future. As Christian Fischer, CEO and Co-founder of Bcomp, stated, “This focus on mobility marks an exciting chapter for Bcomp to make an even better impact.”
This exhaustive report is published by CleantechAlps and supported by their partners, the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE), the Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), and the Office for Economic Affairs and Innovation of the Canton of Vaud (SPEI) and its innovation agency Innovaud.
