Sustainable and smart mobility solution designed with full natural fibre bodywork in ampliTex™ and powerRibs™. Electric Assisted Vehicles (EAV) has developed a lightweight eCargo bike made of renewable materials to reduce CO2 footprint and vibrations.

“Depending on design requirements, natural fibres work as well as glass or carbon fibre and offers less weight as well as being non-conductive and vibration-damping. This mix fit perfectly for electric such as the eCargo, also called Project 1 (P1)”, says Adam Barmby, founder and technical director
EAV is a new generation vehicle design, engineering and manufacturing company in the rapidly growing zero-emissions vehicles market. Transportation must be as environmentally friendly as possible. Adam Barmby, founder and technical director says “Depending on design requirements, natural fibres work as well as glass or carbon fibre and offers less weight as well as being non-conductive and vibration-damping. This mix fit perfectly for electric such as the eCargo, also called Project 1 (P1)”.
The EAV uses a layup of powerRibs™ reinforcement grid, forming a 3D structure for maximal stiffness to weight, and ampliTex™ technical fabrics as a base material. The bio-composite parts are made using biobased resin made from cashew nut shells, to minimise the environmental impact in all stages.
Ultralight vehicle with low eco footprint
The standard vehicle weighs 120 kilograms and can be used and driven like a traditional bicycle. By using Bcomp’s proprietary ampliTex™ and powerRibs™ technology reinforcement, the end customers get a lightweight custom-made vehicle with up to 5x higher vibration damping than carbon fibres and with up to 85% lower CO2 footprint.
The vehicle can run 60 miles and do 100 stops on a 6hr charge. It has low Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC), improved safety without sharp shattering or toxic dust, and viable end-of-life options (incl. incinerating for heat without residual waste). It is built using few moving parts to minimise problems and ensure a long lifetime. The fibres are renewable and grown in Europe, binding CO2 as they grow.
Safe for urban areas
The EAV offers sustainable, yet highly efficient options for last mile deliveries in urban areas and is friendly to both people and environment while improving living standards – quiet, small and convenient it is much less intrusive than vans. Thanks to the small size and cargo e-bike classification, it can often move as fast or faster than a van due to route choice, and it comes with design options such as cooling box. The vision of EAV is to transform urban mobility for the better and create a cleaner, healthier blueprint for next generation mobility.
Collaboration with DPD
The vehicle was launched in 2019 and has already sold to customers such as DPD, in addition to smaller actors. From the launch, chief executive Dwain McDonald from DPD group stated: “This is an entirely new type of vehicle and is designed specifically to meet the current challenges for delivery firms in the urban environment. We know that the environment and climate change matter more than ever to our clients and the feedback we get is really positive.” For delivery companies, such as DPD, as last mile deliveries are an increasing trend and challenge with online shopping. But also local actors, smaller shops etc., companies, restaurants and anyone that needs a convenient, fun and sustainable way to move around cargo over short distances.
