LiveWire, the electric motorcycle company which originated from the legendary Harley-Davidson MC brand, recently partnered with Bleach Design Werks to customise a LiveWire ONE electric motorcycle for tattoo artist Brian Woo, a.k.a. Dr. Woo. The bike, called “Silent Dancer,” was inspired by the Japanese concept of Ikigai, which combines multiple passions, including riding, fashion, and art, to create an incredibly unique and custom LiveWire ONE.

Dr. Woo chose the LiveWire ONE as a fitting canvas for his creativity, having already stepped into the world of EV with his Porsche Taycan. “I think there is a connotation that electric vehicles are a step down from vehicles with motors and that combustion is powerful,” says Woo. “But with EVs, these are some of the strongest and fastest vehicles I’ve been in and on. The number one thing you notice is how smooth and powerful the bike is. It’s very approachable but still built for speed. It allows everyone engaged and involved in riding to step forward into electrification.”

During the customisation process, the team focused on exploring sustainable solutions. One of the key sustainable solutions used was the ampliTex™ technical flax fibre reinforcements by Bcomp. The natural fibre composite was used to replace carbon fibre and plastic on the bike’s “fuel tank” cover, front fender, and fairing.

Bcomp is a Swiss-based company that provides lightweight solutions based on natural fibres. The company has developed a range of materials that combine the mechanical properties of traditional composites with the sustainability of natural fibres. Bcomp’s ampliTex™ is made from flax fibres, which are renewable, biodegradable, and have a drastically lower carbon footprint than carbon fibres.

Ikigai was also used as a guiding principle in the customisation process. Dr. Woo combined his passion for riding, fashion, and art to create an incredibly unique and custom LiveWire ONE. “Silent Dancer” is his concept of not just riding but dancing as he finds his flow and connection to the world around him through the benefits of electrification. This theme further materialises as an accompanying moto capsule created by Woo and Ojeda, a custom kit that speaks to the symbiosis between the rider and bike and just how intrinsically linked the riding experience is to self-expression and autonomy.

The LiveWire customisation project also aims to inspire creatives to push what’s expected of EV distributors. LiveWire CURRENT, located at Race Service in LA, aims to showcase a burgeoning community of creatives who have already made the organic link between owning a motorcycle and exploring unorthodox avenues of expression, whether it’s fashion, streetwear, or tattoos.

Additionally, the project also focuses on bringing a new wave of curiosity to first-time riders. “Let’s say you’re curious about motorcycles — the fashion is kind of an entry point to start exploring the culture and learning more about it,” notes Ojeda. “It’s exciting that LiveWire is stepping into the apparel side of things, working with artists that can bring that side of the culture to life.”

LiveWire’s collaboration with Bleach Design Werks to customise a LiveWire ONE electric motorcycle for tattoo artist Brian Woo is a remarkable example of how sustainability and creativity can be merged. The use of Bcomp’s ampliTex™ flax fibres and LiveWire’s focus on community and self-expression makes this project unique and inspiring. It shows how electric motorcycles can offer a smoother and powerful ride while also providing a canvas for artistic expression and sustainable solutions.
