As a side-project, french motorcycle manufacturer Dab Motors collaborated with Yamaha Europe on the Yard Built program and realised an extraordinary custom bike. This one-of-a-kind machine unites raw power with a distinctive design, looking as if it was sent back from the future.

“In a world driven by technology, we don’t have to be stuck in the old days with old ways of working. We should explore every possibility by using new technologies and be inspired by them. We want to stimulate people’s curiosity by using new kinds of materials, by being critical and by testing every idea that we have. It’s about not limiting yourself and opening your mind to potentially revolutionary ways of doing things.”, says Simon Dabadie, founder of Biarritz based DAB Motors.

State of the art materials and craftsmanship

DAB Motors used a mix of digital tools and boundary pushing manufacturing technologies to design and produce the ALTER. The stunning sub chassis consists of 3d printed aluminium, made with the latest additive manufacturing processes while the distinctive bodywork is made from highly sustainable ampliTex™ flax fibres that significantly reduce vibrations and create a lightweight structure.

The ALTER in motion:

Unique design possibilities

Thanks to its natural translucency, the flax fibre bodywork allowed Simon Dabadie from DAB Motors to create a unique lighting system with a smart LED array that’s completely integrated into the flax bodywork up front. The result is a mix between futuristic and vintage looks combined with a low eco footprint enabled by the ampliTex™ technical fabrics. Using flax fibres provides an up to 75% lower CO2 footprint cradle to gate and viable end-of-life options thanks to thermal energy recovery without residual waste.
